Description

As you will see from the brief descriptions below, the Boonshoft Museum of Discovery is a vibrant, interactive science center, children's museum, accredited zoo and Planetarium. Kids, teens, adults and scholars use our resources to further their understanding of science and technology.

Space Theater

Experience the latest in digital Planetarium technology in the Caryl D. Phillips Space Theater! The Dome offers three types of shows each day, including traditional planetarium shows, full-dome specialty films, and IMAX-style 3D films.

Astronomy Department

This Department consists of Hall of the Universe displays, a Planetarium and an Observatory. Through daily programs and outreach, the community gains a better understanding of our world.

Anthropology Department

The Department curates a highly diverse collection numbering well over 1,400,000 items gathered from around the world for the past 100 years.

Biology Department

This Department is a repository for thousands of specimens from Ohio and around the world. Items are collected and preserved for scientific research and graduate studies.

Collections Department

The majority of the collection consists of materials excavated during decades of archaeological research in the Miami Valley, including many items from the SunWatch site.

Discovery Zoo

The Discovery Zoo, re-opened in September 2010, features familiar favorites - such as Madison the Bobcat - as well as many new animal friends. This 6,000 sq. ft. AZA accredited zoo offers members a unique experience at the Boonshoft Museum, and also reciprocal benefits at zoos across the country.

Mission

The mission of the Boonshoft Museum of Discovery is to be the premier regional provider of interactive science learning experiences which enrich the lives of children and adults, enhance the quality of life in our community, and promote a broad understanding of the world.
