Born in Plymouth, Vermont, on July 4, 1872, Coolidge was the son of a village storekeeper. He was graduated from Black River Academy in 1890 and attended Amherst College, graduating with honors, and entered law and politics in Northampton, Massachusetts. Slowly, methodically, he went up the political ladder from councilman in Northampton to Governor of Massachusetts, as a Republican. En route he became thoroughly conservative.

Calvin Coolidge Memorial Foundation

The Foundation was formed in part to redress the fact that there is no federally funded presidential library for Calvin Coolidge, our 30th U.S. President. John F. Kennedy, Harry S. Truman, Lyndon B. Johnson, Dwight D. Eisenhower, Herbert Hoover, and Jacqueline B. Kennedy are among the many Sponsors and National Advisory Board members over the last 50 years. The Foundation preserves the Coolidge's legacy, and provides primary and interpretive information through a Website and by request, to teachers and students, scholars, the media and the general public. The Coolidge Foundation owns and maintains its offices in the President Calvin Coolidge Museum and Education Center in Plymouth Notch Vermont.

Park-McCullough House

At Historic Park-McCullough, you experience the grandeur of the house often described as "one of Vermont's jewels". You also participate in the elegant lifestyle made possible through vast wealth accumulated during the California Gold Rush era and subsequently added to through business dealings in finance, railroads, steamship lines and real estate development.

The thirty-five room Park-McCullough House was completed in 1865 for Trenor and Laura Park. Park engaged architect Henry Dudley, of the New York architectural firm, Diaper and Dudley, to design his "summer home", a classic example of French Second Empire style.

The Pittsfield Historical Society was founded in 1971 and is presently located at 13 Elm Street, Pittsfield, NH Meetings are held at 7:00 PM on the second Thursday of each month at the Society Building. All interested parties are welcome to attend.

The Preservation Trust of Vermont was founded with the goal of helping Vermonters save their historic places and that is exactly what has happened. In just three decades, the group has helped communities across the state save more than 1,000 buildings – village stores, post offices, schools, barns - all returned to productive use. Just this year alone, the Preservation Trust’s staff of five worked on 352 preservation projects in 155 communities.

The Museum houses an extensive natural history exhibit (over 200 native species represented) including 3 extinct species and unusual individual animals. Also on-site is a live birds of prey exhibit, native reptiles, fish and an assortment of other New England focused displays. Adjacent to the Hogback Mountain Conservation Area, museum visitors have easy access to over 600 protected acres of trails and views of three States.
