Julie J. Metz Wetlands Bank
Woodbridge, Virginia

Includes 19 acres of constructed wetlands and about 200 acres of natural wetlands are protected by a 220-acre upland buffer along Neabsco Creek, near Leesylvania State Park. Constructed by Wetland Studies, this site was used to mitigate wetland losses from development and later donated to Prince William County for public use. The diversity of plants at the Metz attracts wildlife and wildlife enthusiasts, especially birders, from throughout Northern Virginia.

Leesylvania State Park
Woodbridge, Virginia

Leesylvania State Park lies along Prince William's Potomac River shoreline, between Neabsco and Powell's Creeks. With 470-acres, Leesylvania State Park is the single point of public access to the Potomac River along Prince William's nearly 30 miles of waterfront. This park offers many outdoor recreation opportunities, including camping, boating, fishing, birding and other nature explorations. Leesylvania State Park is in the southeast area of Prince William County, about 25 miles from Washington, D.C., and Fredericksburg.

Occoquan Bay National Wildlife Refuge
Woodbridge, Virginia

Occoquan Bay National Wildlife Refuges lies along Prince William's Potomac River shoreline. Access to the wetland areas of the Marumsco section of the Occoquan Bay Refuge is restricted, although some areas can be viewed from Veteran's Park. The Occoquan Bay National Wildlife Refuge, at the confluence of the Occoquan and Potomac Rivers, hosts a broad diversity of wetland habitats and is a premier area for birding and butterfly enthusiasts.

Historic Prince William, Inc.

Historical Society

A non-profit organization, working in partnership with other historical groups in this area to preserve and protect, by promoting and encouraging historical research, education, and other activities, the historic resources of Prince William County. The organization holds meetings and tours, issues publications and maintains a web site with historical data.

Lake Ridge Park
Woodbridge, Virginia

Lake Ridge Park is located along the banks of the upper Occoquan Reservoir. Lake Ridge Park offers fishing and boating, hiking trails, picnic pavilions, playgrounds, wooded natural areas, a mini-golf course and ample opportunities for family fun. Entry to Lake Ridge Park is open during daylight hours year round. Different fees apply for golf, mini-golf, boat rentals and pavilion rentals.

Merrimac Farm (Wildlife Management Area)
Woodbridge, Virginia

Located west of the intersection of Aden Road and Fleetwood Drive, protects nearly one mile of shoreline along Cedar Run. This 302-acre Wildlife Management Area, includes more than 100 acres of contiguous floodplain wetlands, and a diversity of plant and animal communities. It's a great place to watch wildlife.

Rippon Lodge Historic Site
Woodbridge, Virginia

Rippon Lodge was built circa 1747 by Richard Blackburn and is one of the oldest houses still standing in Prince William County. This modest house was built on a hilltop overlooking the mouth of Neabsco Creek and the Potomac River and was surrounded by several other structures during the 18th century. In the early 20th century the home under went extensive renovations by its then owner Judge Wade Ellis and his wife Dessie. Stewardship of the home then passed to its last private owner Admiral Richard Blackburn Black in 1953. Prince William County purchased the property in 2000 and began extensive restoration efforts.
