Description

This museum always has been operated by volunteers who usually had other fulltime commitments. Our immediate goals are to maintain the exhibits in good condition with interesting information. We are developing an audio tour. Longterm, we hope to add exhibit space and acquire land to house a country school house donated to the Society. We also want to encourage use of our resources for local and family history researchers.

History

William A. Hill, a Civil War veteran from Massachusetts, built this house in 1877. It served as a private residence for the next 95 years...more than half of that time as home to three generations of the Hedlund family. In 1972, it was donated to the town for use as a museum by Mertle Hedlund.

Artifact Collections

Household furnishings, misc. Hedlund family items, other misc. exhibits, photographs.

Research Collections

All known Lincoln County, Colorado histories; some regional history and a few family histories. We also maintain an area cemetery database and most obituaries from 1889 to 1920 plus many others.
