When you visit the Bunker Hill Monument be sure to walk across the street to the old Charlestown Public Library, which now houses the museum. There you'll find extensive displays to help you understand the history of the battle, how the Monument was built, and the surrounding history of Charlestown itself. Check back often to see what else we're undertaking and to find out about events planned in conjunction with our projects.

Description

The CHS is housed on the 3rd flr of the Bunker Hill Museum building. The museum itself is managed by the Parks Service in partnership with the City of Boston and the CHS. The CHS is a separate non-funded entity, and is membership fee based. Current membership is around 200. The CHS provides several events through the year, usually in the Museum auditorium, with the events focusing on the history of Charlestown. The CHS website carries details of these events, as well as archieved newsletters. Having recently relocated into refurbished offices at the Museum, the CHS is currently establishing a new archive system to monitor the donations of artifacts and documents to its collection.

Mission

Article II of the CHS Constitution: The object of the organization shall be the gathering and recording of the history of Charlestown and of individuals and families associated with the town; to collect and preserve historical artifacts and relics; and to found and maintain a museum where such collection shall be maintained and exhibited.
