Description

The museum pictured above is supported by The Thorp Area Historical Society and tax deductible donations. It is located two miles East of Thorp, Wisconsin on County Hwy. X (Yellowstone Trail), then 1/8 mile North on Gorman Avenue, site of the Old St. Hedwig Church Rectory. The cemetery grounds of the old church fill the back and side yard.

It is open weekends from Memorial Day through Labor Day and a perfect place for research the families from the Northwestern portion of Clark Co., Wisconsin.

Learn about the earliest known settlers, key landmarks that dot the area, and how the demographics of our city came to be. You can even look at a timeline of significant events in our local history. All information on our community has been collected and curated with the diligent effort of the Thorp Area Historical Society.

History

This museum first opened in 1995 and now houses a massive collection of historical memorabilia. There are numerous collections of old photos, publications, family histories and yearbooks plus a wide range of items, which are on private loan to the museum. It is utter delight for a family historian to visit such a treasure trove of information and spend a leisurely afternoon exploring past generation of the area. There is something of interest in every corner and you are sure to be greeted with an ear to ear smile!
