Description

Four building housing artifacts of Caribou Maine plus a walking trail through a lightly forested area.

Behind our Center is a trail system where you can take a leisurely walk. Take a rest on one of our benches and enjoy the peace and quiet of Mother Nature. While crossing our bridge you will be soothed by the sounds of our babbling brook. Investigate many native plants along the trail.

Visiting our 1860's replica one-room schoolhouse. Turn back the clock to the days when only one teacher taught all grades. There was much opportunity for individualized attention since some of the eight grades may have had only one student. Learn about the requirements of the early teacher and the daily chores of the students.

Investigating early farm equipment and hand tools. Our new barn holds many examples of early farm equipment and hand tools used around the farm or home. Wagons, blacksmith equipment, saws, equipment for tending crops all can be found there. Investigate our portable saw mill, still in operating condition.

Investigating War artifacts. We have military items from the Civil War, World War I and World War II. Uniforms, guns, ribbons, medals, informative books, and other assorted related items. You can even find a prosthetic leg and Grand Army of the Republic (G.A.R.) materials.

Viewing old photographs of Caribou, it's early citizens and various other topics. We have class reunions of classes in the early 1900's, teachers, businesses, farming, railroads, etc. We even have some of family vacations as well as stereocards of a few local scenes and palaces, etc. of Europe. Whatever you are looking for we may have.
