If you haven't been to the Montana Historical Society, you will find a true gem in expeeriencing and understanding the West. We are the oldest such institution west of the Mississippi River founded in 1865. We were among the first museums in the nation accredited by the American Association of Museums, and our exhibits and artwork are world-class. Charlie Russell not only was a better painter than Remington, he also was a real Montana cowboy before he went to lighter pursuits!! We have the best gallery of his work anywhere including his masterpiece "When the Land Belonged to God." On our website you will find "the Western Rendezvous of Art" that brings art lovers and the best artists in the nation together in Montana every summer.
