We are caretakers of local history, art, and culture.
We are a 100% volunteer-run, non-profit organization -- our board, officers, archivists, and webmaster donate their time, energy, and skills to the RMWHS. They and our loyal members provide and participate in programs and activities, including: community event participation; private and business research assistance; local preservation projects; and more.
We welcome all individuals who love our neighborhoods and are looking to take an active role in collecting, preserving, documenting and promoting our area's rich history, art and culture -- or who simply love to learn about it.
The mission of RMWHS is to collect, preserve, and document the history, art, and culture of this area of Pennsylvania and to be the caretakers of its history for future generations. The society is dedicated to the advancement of historical education, collection, documentation and preservation of objects and memorabilia relating to Roxborough, Manayunk, Wissahickon, and the surrounding communities.
Local maps, books, genealogies, manuscripts, art, and more ...
The items preserved at the RMWHS Archive were obtained through donations from members, local residents, historians, authors, and descendants of families with roots that trace back to the earliest days of Roxborough, Manayunk, and Wissahickon. Local businesses, schools, churches, and a great many organizations have also contributed to the treasures the RMWHS Archive holds.
The RMWHS Archive is located within the Roxborough branch of the Philadelphia Free Library at 6245 Ridge Ave, Philadelphia, PA 19128. Street parking only.
Admission to the RMWHS Archive is free -- but it is open by appointment only. Please contact us to make an appointment. Appointments are generally available Mondays through Saturdays but are dependent on variations in the Library & archivists' weekly schedules.
If you are not able to physically visit the Archive, but would like a virtual meeting with an archivist via FaceTime, Zoom, or Skype, arrangements can be made.
