Our mission is essentially to collect, preserve, and disseminate the history of the Town of Eastchester. We maintain a research library on local history, and we maintain a collection of documents and ephemera from the Victorian era to the present. Our museum docent gives tours of an 1835 One Room School House to local schools.
We were founded in 1959 to restore a one-room school house that was built in 1835 and used until 1884. It was essentially vacant until the Historical Society started to restore the building in 1960. A research library was built on the grounds in 1982.
Old maps of the US and the local area dating from 1845 to the 1920's.
Some 2000 old juvenile books of fiction and text books.
A collection of costumes dating from the late 19th century.
A collection of cards dating from the late 19th century.
Some 2000 books about the history of the US, New York State, New York City and our local area. These includes the records of the Town of Eastchester dating from 1664. Also includes the burial records of St. Paul's Church, Eastchester. Also, genealogical records of many of the old families of the Town.
