The Akwesasne Library and Cultural Center is a public library and museum that serves the people of Akwesasne, the surrounding communities and the visiting public by providing access to educational and cultural resources and services.
The Akwesasne Cultural Center, Inc. began with the founding of a library in 1971, in order to curb the dropout rate in our community. In 1972, cultural classes started and donations to the center began our museum collections. The board of directors and the staff of the library and museum are Akwesasne Mohawk community members.
Our photo collection ranges from glass plate negatives produced in the early 1900?s to reproductions of recent images from the year 2000 and up. Over 300 of our ethnographic objects are baskets, making it our second largest discreet category within the overall collection.
Researchers often visit the library to make use of the extensive Native collection and the vertical files on community related topics.
Exhbiitions, lectures, guided tours, and educational kits are all available for the public.
Our board consists of Akwesasne Mohawk community members who represent a variety of districts within Akwesasne and a wide age-range.

Our gift shop focuses on Mohawk made items. Mail orders are taken, by phone and e-mail request.
