Wheaton Arts and Cultural Center (“WheatonArts”), founded as Wheaton Village in 1968, is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization with a mission to engage artists and audiences in an evolving exploration of creativity. The mission will be advanced through the interpretation of collections and exhibitions; education initiatives and culturally diverse public programs; residencies and other opportunities for artists. With a history spanning four decades, WheatonArts has earned regional, national and international recognition for its unique collections and programs. The Museum of American Glass is at the heart of the Center, housing the most comprehensive collection of glass produced in America. Located in Millville, center of the nation’s first glass industry, the Museum is one of only 8 museums in New Jersey to be accredited by the American Alliance of Museums.

WheatonArts engages artists and audiences in an evolving exploration of creativity.

Programs
Programs at WheatonArts

The Museum of American Glass is the foundation of our program infrastructure. Accredited by the America Alliance of Museums, the Museum houses the nation’s largest collection of American glass and encompasses examples of the earliest glass objects made in America to 18th century glass to fine contemporary glass art. The Museum’s glass and library collections are a primary resource for scholars, collectors, other institutions and artists.

The Artist Studios facilitate the work of a multi-level artist community including staff, visiting artists, assistants, and students, while offering public access and interactive programming. The Glass Studio, considered the “heartbeat” of the organization, is the primary asset from which we achieve our goals to share the creative process with public audiences in an extraordinary public facility.

The Creative Glass Center of America (CGCA) offers fellowships to emerging and mid-career artists and is an exceptional resource for artists working in glass. Through an annual peer review process, 10 artists are awarded working residencies, providing 24-hour studio access, materials, housing, and stipends. The Resident Studio Assistant Program continues to offer exceptional professional development for younger artists.

The Ceramic Studio is also a magnet for visitors of all ages. An internship program and a seasoned Noborigama wood kiln have catalyzed a community of potters. Other studios feature flamework (torch-made glass) and paper arts.

Down Jersey Folklife offers programs and temporary exhibitions related to the folk traditions and cultural diversity of southern New Jersey and also has special exhibits highlighting the region’s many ethnic groups and art forms.

At WheatonArts, we value the creative process, and the many ways in which engagement with the arts introduces learning skills and strengthens basic classroom curriculum goals. In addition to all of the many wonderful exhibits, demonstrations and other attractions throughout WheatonArts, we offer special programs and classes for students and adults.

Up to 10 additional special weekend events augment daily programs. In addition to the Festival of Fine Craft and GlassWeekend, two WheatonArts signature events, there are numerous community events including multicultural festivals. Look for upcoming news on our Wheaton Wide Open Weekends, sponsored by PNC Arts Alive!

2025 American Alliance of Museums (AAM) ANNUAL MEETING & MUSEUMEXPO

Los Angeles Convention Center

Los Angeles, California

AAM 2025 will focus on the theme, Museums & Trust.

Museums have long inspired high levels of public trust, surpassing news outlets, government organizations, researchers and scientists, corporations, and social media platforms. This consistent finding underscores our institutions’ unique position in society as stewards of knowledge, culture, science, and history—areas where credibility and reliability are paramount

In an era marked by mistrust and misinformation, museums have a rare ability to counterbalance the proliferation of false narratives and polarized perspectives. Using our trusted position, we can cultivate a more healthy, empathetic, and informed society.

But to do so, we must maintain our credibility proactively, embracing thoughtful, transparent, and collaborative practices that will defend against influences like bias, resource challenges, abuse of power, and social injustice

An Incredible MuseumExpo

AAM is again partnering this year with the Museum Store Association to host an incredible combined expo hall. Find the most innovative services, products, and solutions in the museum field. With 350 exhibitors, you are bound to find the right partner for your museum’s current challenges and opportunities.

2025 Am Assoc for State and Local History Annual Conference

TBD

Cincinnati, Ohio

The 2025 AASLH Annual Conference, in partnership with Ohio Local History Alliance, will take place as the history field makes the final preparations to kickoff off the 250th commemoration of the founding of the United States.

The 2025 conference theme, inspired by AASLH’s Making History at 250: The Field Guide for Semiquincentennial, is an opportunity to broadly explore one of the guide’s themes, The American Experiment. For many in the American colonies in 1776, independence from Britain represented a “leap into the dark” into an unknown future

We are excited for you to join us in Cincinnati as we encourage discussion about our democracy and civic institutions and how they can help strengthen understanding, inspire action, and reveal ways that all of us can participate in and shape the ongoing American experiment.

For more information, please call 615-320-3203 or email info@aaslh.org.
