The Venice Museum & Archives (VMA) is housed in the charming and historical 1927 Triangle Inn listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The museum is located near Venice Beach and within walking distance of downtown Venice. The VMA has temporary and permanent exhibits on display year round, such as "Dr. Fred H. Albee: A New Beginning for Nokomis and Venice" and "Venice Area Fossils from the Burgess Collection." It is located at the west entrance of the Venice Cultural Campus that includes the Venice Public Library, Venice Art Center, and Venice Community Center. The VMA is also across the street from West Blalock Park. Open Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays from 10am to 4pm, Thursdays and Fridays by appointment. Also open the first and third Saturdays of each month from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. from October through April.

Mission

The mission of Venice Museum & Archives is to collect and preserve historical and archeological materials relating to Venice and the communities of Laurel, Nokomis, and Osprey whose histories have been interwoven from 1867 to the present.

History

The Triangle Inn, home to the museum, is owned by the City of Venice. Built in 1927 as a rooming house or bed and breakfast, the building was threatened with demolition to make room for a parking lot. The building was saved and moved to its current location across from West Blalock Park in 1991. Restoration and renovation were completed in 1996. The museum is planning for an expansion and has launched expanded education and outreach programs for the area.
