Description

We have a research library with books, pictures, and family newspaper clippings, etc. A large area is devoted to displays pertaining to Pleasant Hill's most interesting history.

Mission

To preserve and make available to the public the history of Pleasant Hill, Missouri.

History

In 1976, this building, after being completely renovated, was dedicated as the Pleasant Hill Historical Society’s Museum.

The Historical Society was organized in 1970 & the original 1000 sq ft museum was created in the old Kosky Barber Shop. Later a 2000 sq ft addition was built in the mid-teens.

Artifact Collections

The collection of artifacts includes everything from period clothing, turn-of-the-century glassware, personal items of the early citizens of Pleasant Hill. In particular, the Museum houses the James Allen African Collection, which includes early 20th Century items from Africa.

Business, industrial, railroads, churches, school, and Military items, demonstrating Pleasant Hill's History.

Research Collections

Family Name vertical files of newspaper clippings from the 30's to present day (some periods not covered). Indexed Photograph Collection. Pleasant Hill Times Newspaper on Microfilm to 1945. Cass county Deed Indexes on Microfilm.

Family Clipping Files, Index to Photo Collection, Books and Publications related to Pleasant Hill, Cemetery Listings, Phone Books.

Programs

Our quarterly meetings are open to the public & provide a historical or community related program. We present additional programs for special events downtown & at larger facilities.

Facilities

We have an area for meetings that seats about 35 people.

Governance

A board of 6 members meets quarterly.
