Description

The CVME is a cultural museum that preserves and exhibits the history, culture, artifacts and contributions historically of the Cape Verdeans and highlights our distinguished accomplishments by improving awareness/recognition resulting in ethnic notoriety and heritage preservation. This project is implemented by creating a display with books, artifacts, pictures and stories, etc., about Cape Verdeans. The exhibit gives recognition to the Cape Verdean community as well as providing an educational experience to all that visit our museum.

History

A Grand Opening was held on Saturday, October 8, 2005 to invite the Cape Verdean community and others to come and view the location space and to celebrate this accomplishment. This went well despite the weather because the enthusiasm and positive attitude of all that visited the museum told us that the community embraced the idea of a museum to tell our stories. The CVME is the first and only Cape Verdean museum in America.

Artifact Collections

Donations are always accepted. The Cape Verdean Museum Exhibit needs artifacts, books, etc., to tell the stories of Cape Verde and to tell the stories of the Cape Verdeans of New England.

Programs

The Hall of Fame was established to honor the contributions of those whose efforts have added significantly to the heritage of the Cape Verdean community. Those eligible for membership are people, living or deceased, of Cape Verdean descent, American born or immigrant, who live or have lived in the New England area. Those whose reputations have contributed to the Cape Verdean community in New England are eligible.

Governance

The CVME is a non-profit 501 C3 organization and is operated by volunteers and directed by the Board of Directors.
