Newport Historical Society Museum
Newport, New Hampshire
Description

The Newport Historical Society Museum represents the birthplace of one of New Hampshire's earliest and most successful mill towns. Our most prominent historical figure is Sarah Josepha Hale, editor of Godeys Ladies Book and author of "Mary Had A Little Lamb. And WE KNOW COVERED BRIDGES! We successfully spearheaded the historic restoration of the Corbin Covered Bridge and most recently completed a year-long fund raiser to help preserve the Pier Bridge, the longest wooden railroad covered bridge in the world.

The Newport Historical Society Museum is located on the second floor of the Old Courthouse building behind the Newport Town Hall & Opera House.

History

The Historical Society and Museum were incorporated in 1975, although an earlier organization was in existence circa 1927.
