Description

The Davison Art Center holds approximately 18,000 prints and 6,000 photographs in one of the foremost collections of prints and photographs at a U.S. college or university. The collection is intensively used for teaching and learning by Wesleyan classes, faculty, and individual students. During the academic year, the DAC presents gallery exhibitions open to the public.

Research Collections

In addition to the Davison Art Center collection as such, the DAC Print Reference Library holds some 3,000 volumes on printmaking history. It contains many standard reference works central to scholarly research on original prints, especially those from Europe and the United States.

Educational Programs

In addition to learning from objects in the DAC collection through class visits and individual viewing appointments, Wesleyan students have the opportunity to work as curatorial interns and gallery assistants, and to take museum studies seminars in which they may collaboratively curate gallery exhibitions. The Friends of the Davison Art Center offer docented tours to visiting classes from schools in the Middletown area.
