Description

The museum continues to educate its visitors about the history of the Sweetwater Valley by changing exhibits and events. The society maintains a permanent collection which is also on view.

Are you curious about the history of the Sweetwater Valley? Or are you a part of a special group who would like to learn about this history? The museum offers tours to scout troops, local school classes, church groups, community organizations and individuals. Call the museum to make arrangements for a tour on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday or Saturday between 10:00 am & 4:00 pm. If you prefer another day, let us know.

The Bonita Museum & Cultural Center is an independent nonprofit cultural institution funded primarily by donations and memberships. Since membership donations form the foundation of our yearly budget, your donation supports historical preservation, helps to provide the highest quality exhibits, and brings the Museum’s programs to the greater community. Your membership helps us keep the doors open!

Mission

The Bonita Historical Society is dedicated to preserve, for public education and enjoyment, the culture, history, art, crafts and aesthetic facets of the region, specifically El Rancho de la Naçion in South San Diego County.

History

The Museum was established as a 1987 Bonitafest event and was orginally located in a storefront along Bonita Road. In 1992, through the generosity of the Bonita-Sunnyside Fire Protection District, the Museum moved into the old fire house located at 4035 Bonita Road. In 2006, thanks to the County of San Diego and the Bonita community, the Museum moved to its permanent location at 4355 Bonita Road, Bonita, CA 91902.
