Art

With more than 9,000 square feet of gallery space, the art gallery houses the museum’s Permanent Collection as well as important, large-scale traveling exhibitions. The museum’s movable wall system and high ceiling allow the display of large 2-D or 3-D artworks. The art gallery has sophisticated climate control and lighting systems. With striking interior architecture complemented by dramatic views from on the three-story atrium, each visit is sure to be memorable.

ElectricSky™

A great adventure awaits you, so just sit back in the comfy seats in the ElectricSky™ Theater and feel like you’re part of the larger-than-life films. Films presented on our giant 61’ domed screen take you on breathtaking journeys to explore the most exciting, majestic and thrilling places on Earth and beyond. Discover the vast galaxy with a planetarium show and star talk.

The Clay Center's Avampato Discovery Museum houses two floors of hands-on science exhibits featuring more than 12,000 square feet of nonstop fun.

Gizmo Factory is made up of more than 30 exhibits exploring physical science with a particular emphasis on creativity and engineering; sound, light and color; and energy and magnetism.

A unique spin on a traditional theme, Milton Gardner’s Earth City explores earth science as you travel through an old-fashioned roadside attraction.

Exclusively for children five and under and their special grown-ups, Kidspace is designed to cater to the needs, cognitive growth and interests of young children.

Health Royale provides a unique approach to health science. Explore health and wellness as you stretch an intestine, guess the x-ray and mimic interesting body noises!

To inspire creativity, learning and wonder through experiences in the Arts and Sciences for all people of West Virginia and the region.

History

The Clay Center for the Arts & Sciences of West Virginia opened on July 12, 2003. The Center, a 240,000 square foot structure, houses performing arts, visual arts and sciences under one roof - one of the few of its kind in the country. Located in the state's capital city of Charleston, the facility is home to both the Avampato Discovery Museum and the West Virginia Symphony Orchestra.
