Description

The Air Zoo is a highly charged, multi-sensory atmosphere that goes beyond anything you've ever seen. It's like no place else on Earth. Voted the "Best Place to Take Out-of-Towners" and "Best Place to Spend a Day with Your Family", the Air Zoo features many amusement park-style rides, full-motion flight simulators, 4-D Missions Theater, Magic Planet, Space Ball and a Zero Gravity Experience, as well as historical exhibits and educational activities.

Your Next Event! Whether you envision a multi-course meal with fine linens or an easy-going event where everyone can hang loose, the Air Zoo is the perfect place for your next event. For more information or to reserve your event space, contact our Event Coordinators at 269.350.2848 and they'll help you plan your perfect event. Below is a gallery of a few events held at the Air Zoo.

When you visit the Air Zoo's aircraft collection, you're entering the land of giants. Giants of history. Giants of performance and accomplishment. Giants of reputation. You'll be shoulder-to-wingtip with entire generations of the world's most elite flying machines. You'll see a Curtiss P-40 Warhawk. Gaze up at an awesome F-18. You'll get up close and personal with an overpowering F-14 Tomcat, the star of Top Gun. And you'll stand face-to-face with the SR-71 Blackbird spy plane, still unmatched in speed and altitude. There's an SBD Dauntless, restored after half a century under water. By the time you're finished, you will have met more than 50 giants, all beautifully restored and reborn

Mission

Our Mission is to preserve the legacy of flight for present and future generations.

History

The Air Zoo's founding organization, the Kalamazoo Aviation History Museum, has built a reputation of national renown. Founded in 1977, it opened to the public on November 18, 1979.

On May 1, 2004, the Air Zoo opened a new facility unlike any other in the world. The 120,000 square foot facility is what some call the "museum of the future." With 360-degree, full-motion flight simulators, the Midwest's first 4D theatre, indoor amusement park rides, a 3D space shuttle ride to the International Space Station, continuous traveling exhibits (including many from the Smithsonian Institution) and the Guinness World Record indoor mural, the Air Zoo combines a sense of adventure with a sense of history.

In June 2007, the Air Zoo added the Michigan Space Science Center (MSSC) to its facility at its East Campus. The MSSC allows visitors to experience some of the challenges astronauts go through during their training. The MSSC ranks fourth in the nation for the number of Smithsonian Institution/National Air and Space Museum artifacts on display.

Educational Programs

Unless otherwise noted, all classes meet in the Air Zoo. Prices are $10 per student*, and include admission to the Air Zoo and the Flight Education and Research Center.

All children who qualify for the Federal Free & Reduced Lunch Program receive free admission to Air Zoo programs. One adult admitted free per every five students. Additional adults receive a discounted rate of $15.50 per adult.
