Description

This museum contains western artifacts from early Meeteetse, when it was settled by cattlemen and homesteaders. Included in the diplays are photograhs from famous western photographer Charles J. Belden, who operated Meeteetse's well-known Pitchfork Ranch for a time. The museum also contains a historical archives for researchers. Meeteetse's original bank is part of the museum, and open for viewing upon request.

History

Meeteetse Museum, Inc. was started in the early 1970's by the Meeteetse Pioneers, a group interested in preserving the history of the area.

Artifact Collections

Artifacts from the local area including an excellent barbed wire collection' military display, early ranch family displays; photographs from famous western photographer Charles J. Belden; two sheep wagons; logging, forest service & farming equipment; turn of the century furniture, clothing and housewares. The museum also has a fine forest service display and cabin.

Research Collections

The Meeteetse Museum houses an Archives for researchers to research topics on the early families of Meeteetse, as well as cattle and sheep ranching, wildlife, schools, businesses, utilities, etc.

Programs

We host speakers from the Wyoming Humanities Counsil about twice per year. These presentations are free and open to the public.
We also host an annual tour to the ghost towns of Kirwin in August and Arland in October.
