Description

House built in 1873. Features three story Second Empire home with fully equipped 1890's decor. Offers heirloom garden.

Mission

To preserve the original home of one of Anderson's successful businessmen, Martin Gruenewald, for the enjoyment of visitors for educational and historical purposes.

History

Original home built by Moses Cherry in early 1850's or 60's. Three story addition began in 1870's and finished by Christiana and Martin Gruenewlad in 1874. City of Anderson purchased it in 1970 as an historic home and restored it to its present condition.

Artifact Collections

Collections of 1900's era house and homemaking artifacts. Dr. J. B. Nicholson Museum Room houses artifacts from early Anderson.

Research Collections

Gruenewald family memorabilia and a few Civil War documents.

Programs

Docent training, House tours, Field Trips.

Facilities

Dining room seats 12. Can accomodate 25 to 30 for receptions and meetings. House setting.
