Description

Freetown Village has over 15 different outreach programs that teach African American history and culture. Programs tour to schools, churches, centers, libraries, and other public and private venues. Programs include interactive theater, music, storytelling, hands-on crafts or heritage workshops or other performance based programs. Programs tour statewide and are appropriate for various ages.

Mission

Freetown Village is a living history museum with the mission to educate the public about African American lives, arts, and culture in Indiana through living history, exhibits, allied programs, and the collection and preservation of artifacts.

History

Freetown Village was organized in 1982 in Indianapolis, Indiana and reaches approximately 20,000 people annually.

Quilts, farm equipment, household items related to African American's in Indiana.

Research Collections

Books and articles about African American history with primary focus on Indiana.

Programs

The more than 15 different touring outreach educational programs are available for bookings. Programs teach African American history and culture through performance based arts that include theater, storytelling, hands-on workshops, music, summer day camp, and special events.
