Red Oak Nature Center can be found in the midst of 40 wooded acres on the east bank of the Fox River. You’ll learn about nature’s secrets as you visit the center and explore the woods. Hike along the trails and enjoy the seasonal, ever-changing beauty of the grounds
Red Oak features three walking trails that run parallel to the Fox River. Wood chips are placed on the trails for hiking comfort. The Dolomite Trail is one-half mile in length and takes fewer than 30 minutes to walk. This trail has seasonal trail signs to help explain some of the natural features on the trail. The Turtle Trail is recommended for people with small children or for those with a limited amount of time. It is less than one-quarter mile in length. It features big trees, wildflowers in the spring, and great views of the Fox River. The Red Fox Trail highlights big Burr Oaks and a freshwater spring. This trail is at the north end of our woods and is accessible from the Fox River Trail.
Trail Bags help your family or group explore Red Oak’s trails by using special backpacks and fun tools that teach about nature topics. Trail Bags are free of charge. There is a deposit required. Adult supervision is required. Call Red Oak at (630) 897-1808 for more information.
