Description

Enter the lush tropical world of the Central Florida Zoo & Botanical Gardens. A relaxing, entertaining and educational experience for the entire family. We’ve been at our present location since July 4, 1975 and we look forward to your visit. Besides seeing over 400 animals (that doesn't even include the bugs in the Massey Services Insect Zoo), you can take to the sky and enjoy our aerial adventure course, ZOOm Air Adventure Park or bring your flip-flops and swimsuit to cool-off in the Wharton-Smith Tropical Splash Ground. You can also rock climb, bungee, and tag your friends with Battlefield Live Orlando laser tag. For a super unique way to see the Zoo, you can enjoy a guided Segway tour! See domestic animals in our Animal Adventure Children’s Zoo, or see the Southeast’s largest collection of venomous snakes and non-venomous reptiles in our Herpetarium. On weekends we offer keeper chats throughout the Zoo. You can also take a ride on our Little Florida Coast Line Train and Animal Carousel. There is SO MUCH to do at the Zoo!

Mission

The Central Florida Zoo & Botanical Gardens is dedicated to the conservation of wildlife and to engaging and educating our guests by sharing knowledge and celebrating our natural world.

History

First established as the Sanford Zoo in 1923 with a collection of donated animals held by the Sanford Fire Department. In 1941, the zoo was relocated to new facilities in downtown Sanford, on the site of the present City Hall. The Zoo of today, opened its doors at its present site on July 4, 1975 and it continues to grow as Seminole County's premier recreational and educational attraction.
