The Bartow History Museum, located at 4 East Church Street in downtown Cartersville, Georgia, documents the history of northwest Georgia's Bartow County, spanning more than 200 years since the Cherokee were the area?s primary residents.

Artifacts, photographs, documents, and a variety of interactive permanent exhibits tell the story of settlement, Cherokee life and removal, Civil War strife, and lifestyles of years past. The museum also provides a variety of educational opportunities for adults, children, families, and school groups.

Also available is an extensive archives and research library containing photographs, documents, newspapers, rare books, genealogy records, oral history interviews, and more. Bartow History Museum, known as the Bartow History Center until 2009, looks forward to your visit soon.

Mission

The mission of the Bartow History Museum is to preserve Bartow County history, educate a diverse community of students and visitors about its unique heritage, and to celebrate its sense of place through exhibits, programs, and outreach activities presented in an engaging and pleasant manner.

History

The Bartow History Center was established in 1987 and has grown to house thousands of artifacts and archival materials, while offering excellent exhibits, both permanent and temporary.

Artifact Collections

Bartow History Museum focuses on the settlement and development of Bartow County, Georgia, beginning in the early 19th century when the Cherokee still inhabited the area. Early European settler life, the iron industry, early textile industry, agriculture, notable figures, and more are depicted throughout the museum exhibits.

Research Collections

The Archives has a variety of primary and secondary source material available for your research needs. These items can be accessed for research purposes or general interest. In many cases, photographs can be copied. Please check with our knowledgeable staff members for pricing and assistance. View a sample of our archival collections on our website.

Programs

Bartow History Museum offers many avenues of learning about Bartow County History and the world around us. From lectures to field trips, traveling trunks, camps, home school programs and Girl Scout workshops, there is sure to be something for everyone.
