The Old Governor’s Mansion, a National Historic Landmark completed in 1839 was the home of Georgia’s governors until 1868. Serving as the political and social base of the capital, the Mansion played a pivotal role in the antebellum and Civil War periods. In November of 1864 the Mansion served as Sherman’s headquarters in Milledgeville during the March to the Sea. Recently, the Mansion underwent an award winning $9.5 million dollar restoration returning it to its c1851 appearance.
