History

In 1960, under the sponsorship of the Linn Creek alumni Association, a Historical Society was organized. This Society is a non-profit organization incorporated under the Not For Profit Act of Missouri for a term of perpetual years.

The purpose of the organization is to discover and collect material to establish or illustrate the history of the area. To do this it has undertaken the collection of such materials as histories, genealogies, biographies, descriptions, directories, newspapers, posters, manuscripts letters, diaries, journals, memoranda, reminiscences, rosters, service records, account books and such Museum material as pictures, photographs, paintings, scenes or relics and objects to illustrate conditions of life, events and activities of the past.

To accomplish this aim, the Society sponsored and opened a County Museum in April 1969 (in the old Odd Fellow’s Building in Linn Creek). Fifty-four donors have loaned 466 different items of historic interest. These items range from Indian artifacts to pictures and rate documents, furniture, tools, and costumes.
