Description

The Plattsmouth Conservancy is dedicated to the preservation of Plattsmouth's architectural heritage. The Plattsmouth Conservancy is a non-profit organization dedicated to encouraging city residents and businesses to wisely use and retain their historical homes and buildings. The Conservancy seeks to promote the identification, evaluation, preservation, and restoration of these buildings. The organization strives to stimulate and support public awareness of such places by exchanging information and ideas, conducting tours and seminars, and gathering materials and books for public use.

Membership in the Plattsmouth Conservancy is open to anyone, even if you do not own an older house. Many of our members enjoy restoration work, have an interest in local history, or simply want to meet others with similar interests.

History

The Plattsmouth Conservancy was organized in 1986 by a group of people who recognized the character and historical significance of the local area architecture. Since its founding the Conservancy has hosted many community events and projects. Such projects include the construction of a commemorative railroad depot in Rhylander Park, the restoration of the Fitzgerald Building located at 6th & Main Street and Rock Bluff school and the Plattsmouth walking tour. Members also participated in the 1994 Chautauqua by enacting a Victorian Garden Party and the 2003 Chautauqua by presenting a Dolly Madison Tea.
