The visitor center is conveniently located at the site’s entrance, just off the main parking lot. Come in to get information about the site and upcoming events, purchase tickets for the historic house or forgotten road tours, or pick up a self-guided walking tour of the grounds.
Sully was built in 1794 by Richard Bland Lee, the first congressional representative from Northern Virginia, as well as uncle to Robert E. Lee. The property includes the original house, fully furnished with period furniture, and some of the original outbuildings: the kitchen/laundry, smokehouse, and stone dairy. A representative slave quarter (built on the footprints of the original slave quarter) is also on the site. Tours of the site cover the Federal Period, when the Lee family owned the property.
The house is furnished with period furniture, dating from 1790-1810. Other period artifacts include place settings, cooking utensils, books, and other smaller artifacts, as well as finds from archaeological digs on the site. Exhibits are changed seasonally and for special events.
Sully Historic Site offers a number of events and programs throughout the year.

Many special events, small and large, are held throughout the year. Sully holds scout days (where scouts can complete requirements for a badge), military reenactments (War of 1812, World War II, and Civil War), hands-on learning days, and holiday candlelight tours. During the summer months, there are many family and child-oriented activities, including summer camps.
Larger events, such as the Antique Car Show and the Quilt Show & Sale draw thousands of visitors each year.
Sully Historic Site always welcomes those people in the area with a love of history to come out and volunteer. Whether it is one day a month or one day a week, working in the garden or giving tours, we would love to see you out here!

Sully Historic Site is a non-profit site, operated under the Fairfax County Park Authority. Sully Historic Site is a member of the Virginia Association of Museums and the American Association of Museums, as well as the Washington, D.C. area Historic House Consortium.
