The Lincoln Historical Society (LHS) is dedicated to preserving the history of the Town of Lincoln, Vermont, which includes the communities of Downingsville, West Lincoln and South Lincoln. The LHS operates a museum located in a restored 19th-century farmhouse and barn in Lincoln Center. The house and barn are furnished with a growing collection of objects, documents and images that tell the stories of our town and its people.

History

The history of the Lincoln Historical Society (LHS) begins in early 1970 when members of the United Church of Lincoln began organizing artifacts and items from local residents, along with those already accumulated, for housing and display in the former Methodist upper church.

Artifact Collections

The Lincoln Historical Society's collections include objects, textiles, photographs and other images, historical papers and documents, newspaper clippings, books, and ephemera. These items document the history of the town, villages, agriculture, schools, industries, businesses, arts, recreation, religious organizations, and of course, the people.

Research Collections

Historical papers, documents, books, newspaper clippings, obituaries, and ephemera are available for research purposes during Museum open hours and by appointment.

Programs

The LHS produces annual exhibits on topics relating to Lincoln, Vermont and history that may be viewed at the Lincoln Library and at the Museum. The LHS also partners with the local Lincoln Community School in educational programming pertaining to local history based on school curriculum guidelines.
