Silent Wings Museum

The Silent Wings Museum is dedicated to telling the history of the American WWII military glider program. The museum was originally established by the National WWII Glider Pilots Association, Inc. View a restored WACO CG-4A, the military mainstay of the U.S. glider force that flew in every major allied invasion of the Second World War. Exhibits include vintage aircraft, photographs, uniforms, weapons, documents, and airborne equipment.

The Sachse Historical Society was established in 1989 to presesrve the history of the community, and record the present for future generations. The city of Sachse made available to the Society a building, which was renovated in 2005 and opened as a museum in 2006. In 2006 a master plan for the direction of the museum was implemented, and collections software was installed in 2007. The museum and society are supported by other organizations in Sachse, namely the volunteer staffers from the Laurie Schwenk Senior Activity Center, the Sachse Economic Development Corporation, American National Bank,the Sachse Cemetery Foundation,the Sachse Chamber of Commerce, and the offices, records and goodwill support of the city of Sachse.

One of the most influential politicians of the 20th century, Rayburn served in the U.S. Congress for 48 years. His 1916 home, now the Sam Rayburn House Museum, preserves his real stories with original furnishings, candid photographs and personal belongings, remaining as they were when he lived here

The Seguin-Guadalupe County Heritage Museum is dedicated to its collection of, and preservation and conservation of historical materials representative of the South Central Texas Region. This includes but is not limited to the areas of business, religious denominations, the arts and sciences, education, technology, agriculture and other institutions which have contributed to the history of this region.

Come stroll with us through lives, memories and events unique to Shelby County. The Shelby County Museum is located in the Center of Shelby County, deep in the rolling hills of East Texas' pineywoods.

The Museum Building, circa 1900 Weaver-Oates house, was built by E. H. Barron. You'll find yourself taking an educational journey through American Indian life, early Spanish and European explorations and the episodes thereafter that forever shaped the landscape of Texas and Shelby County.

The Genealogy Research Library and Archives are also housed in the newly renovated museum building. The library and archives offer a wide selection of research materials to aid in your endeavors.

Sid Richardson Museum

History

The museum is inactive at this time. Due to rapidly expanding enrollment and less rapidly expanding building space, it has become necessary to pack up all of the museum items and assign them to storage. Museum staff can only access its file cabinets, yearbooks, and catalogues at present. It is certain that the museum will eventually re-open.

The Society operates a museum called the Carnegie History Center, which is located in the former Carnegie Public Library building in downtown Tyler. Permanent exhibits include life-size dioramas with Smith County history topics ranging from Caddo Indians to the Twentieth Century. Other items from the Society's collections are showcased in revolving, temporary exhibits. Publications, photographs, and maps are available for purchase at the museum, as well.

The 2025 AASLH Annual Conference, in partnership with Ohio Local History Alliance, will take place as the history field makes the final preparations to kickoff off the 250th commemoration of the founding of the United States.

The 2025 conference theme, inspired by AASLH’s Making History at 250: The Field Guide for Semiquincentennial, is an opportunity to broadly explore one of the guide’s themes, The American Experiment. For many in the American colonies in 1776, independence from Britain represented a “leap into the dark” into an unknown future
