This State Historical Park contains the remains of 1840's era Texas Militia Soldiers whose remains were brought back at great risk and with great effort to be buried in their home area "with honor". The story of how these brave men came to die, and how their remains came to be brought back to this location for final burial is one of the most tragic and stirring stories in modern Texas history. They reflect the early strife that was encountered with President Santa Anna. But our story extends past Santa Anna's influence in Texas, with the end of the Mexican War (1846-1848). Four months after these mayrters were returned to their final resting place, a German immigrant, H.L. Kreische settled on the bluff on which their crypt rests. Mr.

Volunteers arranged all the donated antiques, raised money for repairs, did the repairs, made many of the museum display cases and partitions, hauled in the old Hudson Drugstore cases, and brought in old barn boards to make walls and wooden frames for displays.

Museum of the Plains

Perryton, Texas

Art, History, Historic House, Natural History

Museum of the Plains of Perryton is an encyclopedic history museum dedicated to preserving, conserving, and educating. The community of Perryton was formed in 1919 with the merging of two smaller pioneer villages that had been by passed by the railroad. This unique history provides numerous opportunities for the Museum to delve into two vibrant historical stories. The Museum has four late 18th Century and early 20th Century original structures on site, three of which came from those two pioneer villages. Our long term plan includes a docent training program enabling the museum to conduct period tours in period costumes focusing on our "Victorian Mainstreet." Museum of the Plains is also concentrating on expanding our elementary school educational outreach program.

2025 American Alliance of Museums (AAM) ANNUAL MEETING & MUSEUMEXPO

Los Angeles Convention Center

Los Angeles, California

AAM 2025 will focus on the theme, Museums & Trust.

Museums have long inspired high levels of public trust, surpassing news outlets, government organizations, researchers and scientists, corporations, and social media platforms. This consistent finding underscores our institutions’ unique position in society as stewards of knowledge, culture, science, and history—areas where credibility and reliability are paramount

In an era marked by mistrust and misinformation, museums have a rare ability to counterbalance the proliferation of false narratives and polarized perspectives. Using our trusted position, we can cultivate a more healthy, empathetic, and informed society.

But to do so, we must maintain our credibility proactively, embracing thoughtful, transparent, and collaborative practices that will defend against influences like bias, resource challenges, abuse of power, and social injustice

An Incredible MuseumExpo

AAM is again partnering this year with the Museum Store Association to host an incredible combined expo hall. Find the most innovative services, products, and solutions in the museum field. 2025 Am Assoc for State and Local History Annual Conference

TBD

Cincinnati, Ohio

The 2025 AASLH Annual Conference, in partnership with Ohio Local History Alliance, will take place as the history field makes the final preparations to kickoff off the 250th commemoration of the founding of the United States.

The 2025 conference theme, inspired by AASLH’s Making History at 250: The Field Guide for Semiquincentennial, is an opportunity to broadly explore one of the guide’s themes, The American Experiment. For many in the American colonies in 1776, independence from Britain represented a “leap into the dark” into an unknown future

We are excited for you to join us in Cincinnati as we encourage discussion about our democracy and civic institutions and how they can help strengthen understanding, inspire action, and reveal ways that all of us can participate in and shape the ongoing American experiment.

For more information, please call 615-320-3203 or email info@aaslh.org.
