Attmore-Oliver House Museum

As the house is used frequently for Historical Society functions, the Attmore-Oliver House is not strictly a museum. However, it provides a uniqure opportunity for visitors to see a home lived in by only two New Bern families throughout most of the 19th century and half of the 20th century.

Cherryville Historical Museum

This building was built in 1911 on to an already standing wall with the Bull Durham add on it. We have uncovered part of the Bull Durham add and hope to do more in the future. In this first room we have the original 1921 LaFrance Fire Truck purchased by the City of Cherryville. On the wall behind the truck you see a 9 x 10 foot wall hanging of this building with the fire truck and the firemen at that time.

Granville County Historical Society Museum

We are operating two museums with adjacent locations. The Granville History Museum features a permanent exhibit of the history of this county. The Harris Exhibit Hall has changing exhibits every 3 - 6 months varying in topics with a focus on science, history and the arts. Parking for both facilities is at the Harris Hall, 1 Museum Lane, Oxford, N.C.

Latimer House Museum

Built in 1852, the Latimer House is an Italianate mansion with elegant columns and ornate Victorian furnishings and displays. Restored Victorian gardens, lace brick walls and a fountain grace the outside. It is a true piece of Wilmington history, having been the home of three generations of the Latimer family before being acquired by the Lower Cape Fear Historical Society.

Pender County Museum

The Museum is dedicated to keeping Pender County's history alive. We have a diverse collection of household furnishings,early medical equpment, World War II artifacts, and much more. We are especially proud of our collection of forty one interviews with area World War II veterans. In our annex we have many old timey agricultural tools, a whiskey still, a model of a sawmill as well as several items that we don't even know what they do. Maybe you can tell us!

Ayr Mount - Historic Site

Ayr Mount is a hidden gem located off the Old Indian Trading Path. Home to merchant William Kirkland of Ayr, Scotland, this 1815 house was restored in 1985 to its original splendor. Now furnished with museum quality period pieces including Duncan Phyfe, Charles-Honoré Lannuier and Waterford, plus portraits by Ezra Ames, Jacob Marling and Matthew Jouett. A guided tour reveals family stories, area history, and the extraordinary architecture. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is surrounded by 265 tranquil acres along the banks of the Eno River. Owned by Classical American Homes Preservation Trust, this is an enjoyable visit for all.

Burwell School Historic Site
Hillsborough, North Carolina

The Burwell School is a a historic house museum on two acres in the Historic District of Hillsborough, NC, which was founded in 1754 and laid out in acre lots. The site includes the two-story frame building begun in 1821 and expanded in 1848, which served until that time as the Presbyterian manse as well as a girls' school. The site is named for the Burwell family which operated the school: Robert Armistead Burwell and wife Margaret Anna Robertson Burwell, both from and distinguished Virginia families, and their twelve children. The site includes a restored brick classroom building and a restored brick "necessary" building, as well as a small Southern garden and an example of the rare Musk Rose which was discovered on the property and was associated with the Robertson and Burwell families.

The Lincoln County Historical Association and Lincoln County Museum of History is the Lincolnton and Lincoln County only professionally-operated museum, and continues to the serve a larger audience of genealogists, businesses, history buffs, and preservationists with an experienced and dedicated staff and committed group of volunteers. The Association and museum has broadened its scope of services with a new website www.LincolnCountyHistory.com, new programs, preservation projects, and publications. The Association plans to restore the former Eureka Manufacturing Company Cotton Mill as the new Lincoln County Museum of History and further expand our capabilities and services.

Orange County Historical Museum

The Orange County Historical Museum is located in downtown Historic Hillsborough, one of the early capital cities of North Carolina. The community is steeped in history, from the early Native Americans, the Occaneechi, to the hanging of the Regulators apprehended during the Battle of Alamance, a prelude engagement to the American Revolution. Soldiers from the British Army to Confederate soldiers of the American Civil War have marched through the streets of this quaint town. The Orange County Historical Museum captures many of these spledid stories through more than 1,500 artifacts and exhibits. The museum is located just down the street from the home of William Hooper, a signer of the Declaration of Independence for North Carolina.
