The Elgin Fire Barn No. 5 Museum houses the Elgin Fire Department's most prized artifacts. Among the museum's collection are photos, helmets, various badge types, uniforms, a hand-drawn hose cart, an 1869 horse-drawn Silsby Steamer, several motorized vehicles and much much more.

The Swedish Historical Society of Rockford was established in 1938 by a group from Rockford after visiting the 300th anniversary of the arrival of Swedes in North America.

The Evanston History Center is private, non-profit educational and cultural institution established in 1898 to preserve and share Evanston history. The EHC collects, preserves and tells the story of Evanston's past through tours of the Charles Gates Dawes House, interactive and engaging museum exhibits, a comprehensive research room and research collections, and wide-ranging educational programs.
