The physical location of the museum is not related to the mailing address. Mapping programs will not display actual location of the museum. The 45th Space Wing Public Affairs Office hosts a free historic bus tour for the general public the second Wednesday of each month. The three-hour tour includes visits to the Air Force Space and Missile Museum, historic launch pads and the historic Cape Canaveral Lighthouse. The tour begins at 9:00 AM at the south gate of Cape Canaveral Air Force Station. Participants must meet directly across the street from the Pass & ID building no later than 8:45 AM. Camp Blanding was a major U.S. Army training facility during the Second World War. It was originally established as a state-owned training reservation in 1939 for the Florida National Guard. However, as war clouds materialized, the mobilization of reserve forces and the rapid expansion of the entire United States Army required Camp Blanding to be converted to a federal reservation. It was subsequently enlarged to house two complete infantry divisions along with many separate units. Prior to turning Camp Blanding into an Infantry Replacement Center (IRTC) in 1943, dozens and dozens of army formations comprising hundreds of thousands of troops trained at Camp Blanding.

Smedley National Vietnam War Museum is to educate the youth and the general public in regard to the sacfifices of all veterans, past and present, in their service to our country. Through our displays and artifacts, many of which are hands on, our staff is able to communicate the experiences of the veteran to the visitors. We also participate in community outreach by taking various displays to schools, parades and parks.

Fort Mose is the site of the first legally sanctioned free African American community. In 1693 King Charles II of Spain issued a royal proclamation offering freedom to all male and female slaves in exchange for their conversion to the Catholic religion and service to the Crown. By 1738 more than 100 African fugitives had made their way to Saint Augustine, the Fort and the community of Gracia Real de Santa Teresa de Mose were established by the Spanish government to provide protection to the Northern side of the Castillo de San Marcos.

The story of the New River is as old as the Everglades. It was home to the Tequesta People from prehistoric time. Later is was a refuge for the Seminole People. Even though it was claimed by Ponce De Leon for his King in 1513, it remained virtually untouched by the modern world until the late 1800s. Fort Lauderdale Historical Society operates 3 museums and a research library on the banks of the New River. Its campus features an open-air museum that demonstrates the best remaining examples of wood and masonry vernacular tropical architecture. Its Main, Pioneer House and Schoolhouse Museums explore the development of South Florida from virgin land to the present.

One of ten Houses of Refuge built by the U.S. Treasury Department in 1876, this is the only one that remains. Today it stands as a museum celebrating early peoples, life saving efforts, shipwrecks and military service. Re-creation of rooms depicting life at the House around the turn of the century. Exhibits of Ais Indians, shipwrecks and military servive are also displayed.Tours are available as are self-guided tours through the use of interpretive panels. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Dedicated to the memories of the “Amphibious Soldiers” of WWII, Franklin County is proud to be the location of North Florida’s premier WWII museum.

Our new facilities, located across from Carrabelle Public Beach Park, house over 4,000 square feet of artifacts, vehicles, photos, memorabilia and memories of the soldiers, sailors and other military as well as civilian personnel who trained and worked here during the WWII years. Three Infantry division and two Special Brigades left here after training to confront tyranny both in Europe and the Pacific. Learn about their dedication, fears and heroism at our museum.

The museum is named in honor of Cpl. Larry Eugene Smedley, who was born on March 4, 1949 in Front Royal Virginia. He attended Howard Junior High School in Union Park, Florida, leaving in 1964.He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps on March 18, 1966 in Orlando, Florida. In July 1967, LCpl. Smedley arrived in the Republic of Vietnam. He was assigned duty as a rifleman and squad radio man with Company D, 1st Battalion, 7th Marines, 1st Marine Division, and was promoted to Corporal on September 1, 1967. On December 21, 1967 Cpl. Smedley was killed action in Quang Nam Province and was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor posthumously.
