The Burnett County Historical Society is located at Forts Folle Avoine Historical Park - an 80 acre site with an authentic, restored 1802-1804 Fur Post and a Woodland Indian Village. The Society manages the Historic Site as well as a History Library, restored 1800 school house and soon a logging museum.

The McFarland Historical Society is presently run by a small volunteer board. In the late fall a new theme is chosen for the following spring opening. A theme display is set up in the front window and a more elaborate exhibit is gathered and set up in the foyer of the museum. This display is kept up for the following season, opening on Memorial Day. Docents are present while the museum is open on Sunday afternoons all summer. Special tours are also available at other times and throughout the year by appointment.

We are planning to do more programming during our "open " season from May - October. We hope to increase our membership by being more visible and are working on better storage and display of our artifacts. We are also going to be seeking additional funding from the two townships involved, since our small society of approximately 50 members has fiancial constraints.We have, through the generosity of many small and major private donations, repainted the outside of our historic building twice, the inside once and re-roofed the building, in addition to putting up a "barn" to house larger agricultural artifacts,since actually purchasing the property.

Our research rates are $10.00/hr if you are a current member of the society and $15.00/hr if you are not a member (there is a one hour minimum). We also charge $0.50/copy for the first 10 copies made and $0.25/copy for each copy after that as well as postage. Our museum consists of two buildings. One is the old Soo Line railroad depot which is full of railroad artifacts dealing with local history and railroad history. The museum building is a good source for people looking for family or local history of the Gordon and Wascott areas of Douglas County. It is full of photos, government records, personal narratives, and items from our past.

Iola Historical Society

Historica Village with the original Iola and Northern Railway Depot built in 1894, Log Cabin, Helvetia Town Hall, Replica Country School House and Replica of original Iola Fire House which houses the first three mechanzied Fire Engines including a 1912 Waterous Pumper that was horse drawn. The historical society also has two other large building that are being set up as museums.

Kilbourntown House
Shorewood, Wisconsin

Kilbourntown House was built in 1844 by Benjamin Church, a carpenter from New York. Church, his wife and 6 children lived in the house, which was originally located in the section of Milwaukee known as Kilbourntown. An excellent example of Greek Revival architecture, the house was saved from destruction in 1938 when it was moved to Estabrook Park and restored as a WPA project. The home contains an outstanding collection of mid-nineteenth century furniture and decorative arts. The home is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is available for tour by school groups.
