Drag is not a Crime

In this art exhibit, "Drag is Not a Crime," challenges societal norms and celebrates the vibrant world of drag as a form of self-expression and empowerment.

Through a collection of visual artworks, fashion designs, photography, and performance pieces, the exhibit seeks to dismantle stereotypes and prejudice surrounding drag culture. It explores the history and resilience of drag artists who use their craft to break free from societal constraints.

The exhibition invites viewers to question preconceived notions about gender, identity, and beauty, fostering a space where diversity is accepted and celebrated. With a blend of bold colors and powerful narratives, "Drag is Not a Crime" transcends the confines of traditional art spaces, inviting everyone to join in the celebration of authenticity and the freedom to be unapologetically oneself.

The Mid-Atlantic Association of Museums Annual Meeting is an annual conference dedicated to fostering excellence in museums by providing our region’s museum professionals with high-quality professional development, networking opportunities, and special events

The 2024 Conference Theme is Optimism, Outrage, & Outcomes. Museums aspire to educate, inspire, and enlighten. This year’s conference is an opportunity for museums to come together and share how they work together and build creative, optimistic solutions and outcomes to address these challenges. Join us for round tables, panels, workshops, and tours that focus on projects both completed and in-progress as we explore our journey together and leave with a renewed sense of energy and hope.

MI Museums: Navigating Changing Landscape

The role of museums is evolving. How do we as museum professionals and volunteers navigate the complexities of a rapidly changing world while staying true to the core mission of museums as stewards of culture, education, and public engagement

While this may present us with challenges, it also offers us opportunities to rethink traditional museum practices and embrace novel approaches to our work. As we navigate these societal, technological, and environmental shifts, what are the tools and strategies we can use to innovate and transform the Michigan museum community

This year’s conference invites participants to explore these pressing issues along with emerging trends in museum education and interpretation, collections stewardship, exhibit design, fundraising, audience development, leadership, DEAI and community engagement. We are all passionate about shaping the future of museums – how can we come together to be a catalyst for change within the Michigan museum community?

Free community parade and a ticketed party, showcasing the best of art and community.

Our team is incredibly proud to continue supporting adventurous art and representing the Halsey with a unique fundraising event on Saturday, October 26, 2024

This special event not only celebrates our milestone anniversary but also brings together art lovers and the community in a unique and engaging way

We’re hosting a hybrid event that embodies the non-traditional spirit of the Halsey. The celebration includes a free community parade and a ticketed party, showcasing the best of art and community

The streets surrounding the Halsey Institute will come alive with banners decorated and donated by artists from near and far, from past Halsey artists to local ones. Community and College of Charleston groups will proudly carry these banners, creating a vibrant display of creativity and art in motion

Following the parade, join us in the historic Cistern Yard at the College of Charleston for a festive fundraiser after-party. The banners will be displayed for guests to admire and purchase. Each banner will be available for a flat price of $250, but here’s the twist – the artist's identity will remain a mystery until after the event

We hope to see you at this first fundraiser of its kind in Charleston, supporting the Halsey Institute, and enjoying an evening of creativity and celebration so that in the next 40 years you can say, "I was there!"
