The overall objective of the Palm Beach Maritime Museum is to elevate man's concept of the sea and, through the exposition of discovery and knowledge, raise mankind's awareness about the importance of maritime history, technology, environment, activities and affairs in pursuing a future on planet Earth.

Each year the Centre offers over 300 photography and digital imaging workshops with world-renowned photographers and digital imaging artists such as Vincent Versace, Robert Farber, Laurence Gartel, Douglas Kirkland, Lewis Kemper, and Ross Whitaker, and many others. Our learning environment is electric. Under the tutelage of professionals committed to sharing their skills and encouraging the growth of others, participants can develop creative potential, expand their vision, and master a broad range of photographic and digital imaging applications. Centre workshops are different than most others in that we stress the creative, visionary process. We encourage an open forum for ideas.

The Palmetto Historical Commission is a non profit organization dedicated to the preservation of historic buildings, documents and artifacts. The Palmetto Historical Commission operates the Palmetto Historical Park in partnership with the City of Palmetto and the Manatee County Clerk of Circuit Court. The park is home to an 1880 post office, a 1920 schoolhouse, a 1900 cottage, a replica chapel, a military museum and a 1914 Carnegie Library. Manatee County and City of Palmetto residents help support Palmetto Historical Park.

The Museum serves as a repository of historical and cultural information and physical artifacts primarily relating to African Americans in Pinellas County, Florida. We also sponsor several unique events each year including the following:

  • Toast To The Legends - is an annual event which honors and recognizes pioneer African American families. Family members provide those attending with a display of family artifacts and an oral account of the family's contributions.
  • Children’s Magical Village - consists of entertaining workshops coupled with educational information on traditional African culture.
