The purpose of this organization is to preserve the local history of Jersey Shore and the surrounding area and provide public education through formal meetings, school and organizational events, and social gatherings. We hope to add new members so we will be able to grow and expand. We also want to have fun while we are together and working on projects. By developing relationships and friendships, the organization will become even stronger.

Brown and his young family moved from Ohio to Crawford County in 1826. They cleared the farm, put up a homestead, now gone, that was close to where the museum is and resided at that spot until returning to Ohio in 1835. At times, Brown employed up to a dozen men at the tannery. He was leader in his frontier community, organizing a post office, a school and a church. He grieved over his first wife's child-birth-related death and was remarried to Crawford County girl, Mary Ann Day.

Located in the village of New Richmond, about 13 miles northeast of the city of Meadville, in Crawford County, PA, the John Brown tannery site is on the National Register of Historic Places. It is 850 feet south of state Route 77 on John Brown Road.

The Harris-Cameron Mansion was home to the city's founder, John Harris, Jr. and his sons from 1766 to 1835.

This is the home where Jennie Wade, the only civilian to be killed during the battle of Gettysburg, was killed. Not much has changed inside the home since that fateful day in 1863.

For safekeeping and for use by Hessian descendants and researchers, JSHA has designated Franklin and Marshall College in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, as a repository for historical documents, manuscripts, artifacts, slides, tapes, and publications, etc. JSHA's modest but growing collection is available to the public in the Special Collections Department in the Martin Library of the Sciences during Library Hours (generally open 9-5 weekdays, year round).
