We are a local historical society founded originally to coincide with the Old Edgebrook Landmark District, City of Chicago. We have expanded our horizons to include Sauganash for Forest Glen, neighboring communities here on the northwest side of Chicago. We are centered in the Caldwell's Reserve of Billy Caldwell's grant from the US government of 1828. We hope to establish a local history museum some day.

The Elgin Fire Barn No. 5 Museum houses the Elgin Fire Department's most prized artifacts. Among the museum's collection are photos, helmets, various badge types, uniforms, a hand-drawn hose cart, an 1869 horse-drawn Silsby Steamer, several motorized vehicles and much much more.

The Edgar County Genealogy Library (ECGL) is home to an extensive collection of materials about genealogy and history of Edgar County, Illinois. Located in the Edgar County Historical Complex annex, it is an offspring of both the Edgar County Historical and Genealogical Societies. The Library is staffed by Genealogical Society volunteers to assist with your research. A. Joyce Brown and Linda Cary are co-directors.

Egyptian Theatre

The Egyptian Theatre is a 1929, fully restored, Egyptian Art Deco movie palace, operated and maintained by P.E.T. Inc. (Preservation of the Egyptian Theatre) a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Listed on the National Registry of Historic Places, the Egyptian is home to 25+ community groups that utilize the theatre every year and the theatre continues to show movies (classic & family films along with film festivals). The Egyptian is also available for rentals, tours, weddings, graduations, small parties and receptions.
